Media Response

Media Relations with Confidence and Clarity

A half-day training course designed for personnel who may have to respond and provide media information at a local and regional level.

Objectives

  • Understand how the media operates, what to prepare and how to react if approached.
  • Maintaining/enhancing company reputation when dealing with an incident.

Introduction

Understanding how the media operate and how to mutually cooperate is a great asset to any company when dealing with an incident. Maintaining or even managing to enhance the reputation built up over the years is fundamental in keeping organisations alive for years to come. Creating carefully crafted statements with strong key messages will help demonstrate an open, honest organisation that is mindful of its responsibilities and commitment to duty of care.

A well-managed incident may prevent it from becoming a crisis and communications is a key aspect to this. It is important to identify personnel who can help manage the media at local and regional levels to support the PR effort.

Overview

Inverroy’s Media Awareness programme provides insight into the media and how fast the industry works when focusing on a particular incident. It covers developing the communications strategy, how to gather information, and creating timely and informative statements to meet the needs of all audiences.

The course is a mixture of practical and theory modules covering the development of press statements, key messages, and how to brief the company spokesperson. Delegates can attend one or both modules depending on their role within a response team. Each module is 1 ½ hours.

Module One: Theory session, understanding the role of the company communications representative and how to prepare Holding Statements and Press Statements.
Module Two: Practical scenario-based discussion and role play media engagement with feedback.

The course will offer ideas for successful communications with the media, employees, relatives, government and business partners.

We’ve found the team at Inverroy a joy to work with, very committed to getting to know us and how our organisation works and what it needs. This was critical to building a plan that works for us. It’s been a very positive working relationship and the table-top exercise was an experience that everyone gained huge value from, allowing us to test the plan and gain a better understanding of how we all click together during times of crisis and challenge. We’re looking forward to our continued work together in the future.
