Inverroy Celebrates Tenth Anniversary and Transitions to Employee Ownership Trust

Edinburgh, UK – Inverroy Crisis Management is celebrating its tenth anniversary by transitioning to employee ownership via an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). Founded by Matthew Wardner on March 20, 2015, Inverroy has grown from a visionary idea to a leading organisational resilience firm, achieving numerous milestones along the way.

Matthew Wardner, the Managing Director, decided to sell the company he built, transitioning to an EOT to ensure its future stability and growth. Despite the change in ownership, Matthew will continue to lead the company as Managing Director, maintaining his commitment to excellence and innovation.

Key Milestones:

2015: Matthew Wardner established Inverroy Crisis Management on 20 March.

2016: Obtained MNR Licence for Kurdistan.

2017: Joined the Entrepreneurial Spark incubator programme.

2018: Trademarked the Inverroy name and logo.

2019: Appointed the first Non-Executive Director.

2020: Successfully navigated the COVID-19 pandemic without furloughing or laying off any staff.

2021: Welcomed five new staff members and launched Security Risk Management services.

2022: Received the MoD Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award.

2023: Achieved the first CPD certification for Log Keeper training (and subsequently for Family Liaison, Media Response and Incident Management training).

2024: Delivered the first incident investigation course and launched Safety and Risk Services.

2025: Launched travel security E-learning and transitioned to an Employee Ownership Trust.

Shortlisted for the Scottish Veteran Awards for Employer of the Year and Leader of the Year.

The latest statistics gathered by Co-operative Development Scotland reveal that, as of December 2024, 323 employee-owned businesses existed in Scotland. There are now over 2,200 employee-owned businesses in the UK.

Matthew Wardner

is the Managing Director and founder of Inverroy Crisis Management Ltd.  He retired from the British Army in 2011, having reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Matthew has since pursued a second career in Business Continuity and Crisis Management. He combines his military and industry experience to provide support at all levels, from On-Scene Commanders to Senior Management.  

Over the last ten years, since Inverroy launched, Matthew has expanded the range of resilience offerings to incorporate security, safety, and risk Management with a growing team of 15 experienced consultants from Military, Police, and Corporate backgrounds. The company now offers security reporting and journey risk management, including e-learning for travellers, HSES management systems, behavioural safety, and incident investigation, thereby providing a turnkey solution for resilience-related matters. 

Matthew holds an MBA in Oil and Gas Management from Robert Gordon University. He is Chair of the Scottish Continuity Group, a not-for-profit advice and support organisation with an annual conference attended by 250 resilience professionals. Matthew is a Member of the Business Continuity Institute and a Fellow of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management.
